Baby Amelia | Beacon Hill Newborn Photographer

The sun fell warm on the narrow streets of Beacon Hill.  Baby Amelia was perfectly content in her parent’s arms.  She kept her eyes open all morning as we walked along the Charles River and up towards the Public Gardens.  They held her close and gave her kiss after kiss.  When they looked into her eyes they smiled for they had never seen a little girl so perfectly made.

How To Hang a Wall Gallery

I have a big family, and we all live an airplane or long car ride away.  We talk, we skype, and when we get together…it’s like we have never been apart. But for the everyday, I need pictures to see their faces, all of their beautiful faces (which is a lot of faces and a lot of frames). The perfect solution: a wall gallery, but that means a lot of hanging…

So here is what I have found to be the easiest way to hang a wall gallery: it’s easy, fast and takes all...most of the stress out of hanging pictures.

And I’m not quite done, but here is the work in progress!

Don’t say “Cheese”

Don’t get me wrong I love smiley pictures, but just a smile, a “say cheese” smile fails to help you remember…

what breakfast in the morning was like with his bed head curls and waffle pieces falling off his fork

how much he giggled at the touch of your kisses
her dimples, silly faces, and how nothing seemed to phase her ( not even a giant splash from her big brother)
how free spirited and adventurous she was…she wasn’t afraid to climb rocks twice her height
how helpful, sweet, and thoughtful she was (when her little brother needed a little help with the kite)
how hard you could make her laugh
how much she loved being the apple of your eye

So next time you pull out your camera or iphone, don’t hide their personality by saying “cheese.” Capture them in the moment: running across the beach, playing with their favorite toy, snuggling with daddy, or licking an ice cream cone: the ordinary, everyday moments.

One day you will be glad you didn’t say cheese, because you will have documented memories, not just a smiles.

Alyssa Clow - Well said! I love this post, and agree 100%…especially the comment, “don’t hide their personality by saying cheese”. I cringe every time mom & dad think they’re helping me out with a shoot by yelling, SMILE, SAY CHEESE, SHOW SOME TEETH! Thanks for the inspiration.

Maternity Photography Phoenix AZ - aww…those are beautiful pictures!

Courtney + Jon

I remember Courtney’s cute reaction when I asked her to kiss Jon in the busy Harvard Square coffee shop.  She nervously giggled and really quickly gave him a pec, not wanting the neighboring coffee drinkers to start chanting “too much P.D.A.”  But on this day, though over 200 guests were watching, Courtney’s excitement took reign and everything else faded away.  She laughed, she walked, and she kissed as if it was just she and Jon.  Because it was their day and only he was in the room filled with a sea of people.

Jon I love, and am not surprised,  that you documented the beginning of your own ceremony.

I love how you make each other laugh.

The Big Texan

When it comes to ordering off a menu, I am completely indecisive.

1. I always like to try something new, but…

2. I don’t like being disappointed

So this is what happens almost every time we eat out…

Like everyone I narrow it down…no to lima beans, anchovies, tofu, or fruit on my salad or meat.  I might scan the restaurant for a good looking dish, or ask the waiter for a suggestion.  All of this will help me narrow it down to maybe to three options.  But then I just can’t choose…and then the waiter comes back for the thirds time and says, ” Are you ready to order?”  And someone at the table says yes and I go into a panic…because I am not ready.  So what do I do?

I randomly pick something off the menu. Yes, random… and not even one of my original options.

And then Matt gives me that smile, the kind of smile that is inwardly laughing at how I once again randomly ordered.  Most of the time I will simply smile right on back and wait for my dish, but occasionally I will hesitate and do what I did this past weekend.  I will get up, track down our waiter and re-order.

Only this weekend, I randomly ordered twice.  First with a salmon burger and then I re-ordered a texan burger…not even knowing what the texan burger included.

Let’s just say I was quite surprised when the small little pub by the beach brought out my meal.  Meet the BIG texan burger.

Yes, those are onion rings, enough bbq sauce to make you sick, 2 layers of grilled cheese, most likely half pound of bacon, and every other fixin’ you can imagine.  And no I could not fit it in my mouth (yes, this is me trying out multiple angles and yes I did get bbq sauce up my nose).

And yes, 4 bites in I felt sick…because some combinations and that amounts of bbq sauce are just not meant to be consumed.  And that’s coming from a girl who loves a good messy burger.
